Did You Know?

Sturgeon, today considered a rare fish to catch in our state's waters, were once stacked like cordwood to rot on shore. Early commercial fishermen considered them a nuisance as they broke and tore their nets.

The first European settlement on the bay and on eastern mainland Wisconsin occurred in 1669 when Father Claude Allouez established the Mission of St. Francis Xavier at Oconto.
